Homemade Finger Paint

A wonderful friend of mine who is not a teacher sent me the recipe' for to make homemade finger paint!  I thought this might be a fun idea for those of you who teach Pre-K through 1st grade to add some fun in your classroom for the end of the year!

Many of you I know teach in themes so you could use the finger paint as a center and have your students make pictures of dinosaurs, insects, the ocean life, plants, or anything else you are learning about.  It would also be fun to practice letters, sight words, and numbers!

It may also be fun to have 1st grade or even 2nd graders make the finger paint other than the warming it up, which you can do!  You could then have them write the step by step directions on how to make it!  Feel free to share your ideas on using finger paint below!

p.s. do they sell washable food coloring? I always cook with it and it's not easy to remove off skin.

  4. I made this for my kids today and it came out gloppy and very thick. Tho my 2 year old didn't mind glopping it on with a spoon lol... how do I make it more smooth? Lower heat when warming it up? Mix better? Fun idea tho thanks

    1. I haven't made it myself because I don't have little ones. I got the recipe' from a friend who found it and wanted to share it with everyone. Experiment and try less of the ingredients may work. If anyone else has tried it let us know what you did so it would turn out better!

  5. How long do you let it cool before putting color into the jars?
