  1. In 2nd grade I'll be reviewing basic math facts to ensure everyone is ready to move on. I'll also be reviewing some of the reading strategies the kids should have learned last year, but probably forgot they know. :)

  5. My younger kids are just starting to understand and learn about math sentences and concepts. The older guys ...well there are a lot of skills they need to learn. For now, we will be mastering all multiplication, decimal, and percentage math skills and moving into pre-algebra.

  6. The little guys are still learning to master their clock and time telling skills. Then we are off to learn about math sentences..adding and subtracting:)

    2. I usually start with the basics because I don't know exactly what skills they'll be coming into my classroom with. So, we'll do simple writing and reading for language and for math, we'll do Math All Around Me along with patterning.

    2. Yes, however I should have been more specific....my bad...teachers start Aug. 19 (right on my birthday) for meetings.

  9. I will be going back to fourth grade in a bilingual classroom. I will need to start the year assessing where the kids are in both content knowledge of reading and writing as well as how well they can demonstrate content knowledge in English. Big decisions in fourth grade regarding language of instruction and testing for these babies.

    1. I hope you are happy with going back to fourth grade. Good luck to you and I wish you a super start to the school year. I got your 2nd message too, but since it's the same as this one I won't be publishing it. I have it set to publish or delete each post due to a lot of spam and one person who said some horrible mean untrue things. So it may some time before things are published.   10. I just found out I will be going back to 3rd grade after being in other grades for the past 4 years. Time to study the Common Core to find out what has changed!

  11. I am a third grade special education teacher in Massachusetts. I am focusing on our second year of using the common core. Hoping to work more on implementing the 8 math practices with my third grade team. Thanks for the opportunity to win these great prizes!

  12. I teach First Grade and will be working hard on sight words, cvc words, and basic patterns in literacy. In math we will start with addition skills and counting patterns.
