Fill Your Bucket

This summer when I started checking out teacher blogs I kept reading about this amazing book called "Have You Filled a Bucket Today?"  It's a great book about doing kind things such as helping someone, smiling at someone, holding their hand, hugging them, and just doing really nice things.  While subbing a teacher even had me read the book to the 1st graders and had them draw pictures of how they would fill their bucket and others buckets.  I went in another classroom where the teacher had it set up where children could write nice things to each other and put it in their pretend bucket (a pocket chart with their names on it).  Click on the book to check it out from Amazon!

Then I got this amazing CD from The Learning Station.  It's called #1 Best Kids Songs.  I will be giving this away at some point!!!  On this CD was an amazing song called "Fill Your Bucket."  It has the same great message as the book and it puts the book's great story into a fun song.  I loved the song so much that I contacted The Learning Station on FB and I asked them if they could make a video for it.  Guess what they agreed to do just that all because of me!  Wow, they are amazing!  You can see the video for the song right here:

Please head on over to The Learning Station's FB page and thank them for putting this great book into a song and video!  Have you filled someone's bucket today by filling your own?  Please share with me how you did it!  I told a child how proud I was of her for having All A's and 1 B on her report card and told many others how much I loved subbing for them!

    1. I am glad it is working well in your classroom and that you love the song! I can't wait to hear how the children love it! I hope it makes them smile!

Thanks for the kind words. Right now as you've probably read I'm just a sub unfortunately so I can't integrate technology. I can't even use the computer unless it's in the lesson plan, but I will visit yours and follow you. As soon as I get my own class again I am sure I will love to use your ideas as I am huge into technology!

  2. Greetings Brian,

Thanks for sharing! Character building is vital lesson that needs to be part of our children's lives at school and at home. And by combining story time with a song that enhances the total experience, even the most reluctant reader’s interest in books will be awakened. Also this comprehensive and multisensory approach to early literacy will help develop a youngster's reading skills and comprehension, while immersing them in a memorable and socially meaningful experience.

Now let's ALL start filling buckets in our daily lives...

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to live in a world where everyone treated each other with kindness, empathy, caring and respect? United we can make a difference and we can each be the beginning of a contagious rippling effect that will spread kindness throughout the world! When you walk out the door ask yourself, “What can I do throughout my day to bring a smile to everyone who crosses my path?”

Wishing you all a day filled with smiles!

    1. Hiya Laurie!

You sure know how to fill my bucket girl. It's an honor that you stopped by my blog to read this and leave a comment. For anyone who doesn't know Laurie is in the wonderful music group The Learning Station who sings "Fill Your Bucket." :-)

I agree story and song totally enhances the experience and keeps the reader's interest. No doubt about it. It may get a child to read who never liked to read before!

I do my best to fill as many buckets as I can every day. Doing things to make others feel good just because makes me feel so good and I know it touches their heart. I hope you'll read my Positive Friday post to see how I filled buckets and how so many children filled mine!

That Laurie would be the best world. i sure hope that happens in our lifetime as it would be incredible to see! I've told so many children especially the 3rd/4th graders who I taught for a month that even a smile is contagious and makes others feel so good! Most of them smile all the time!

      Brian :-)
