Tutoring Tuesdays - December 19th, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Everyone should be headed out on winter break soon or those in Australia, New Zealand, etc. heading on summer break. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas that celebrates this wonderful holiday. Happy Holidays to everyone else.

I started out with the 2nd grader reviewing adding 9 on a freebie I found on TPT. I forgot to take a picture of that. She had to try to get 3 in a row before I did. She is doing a great job memorizing her addition facts!

Next, I introduced her to a new skill rounding to the 10's place. We used my Christmas Lights Rounding to the Ten's Place FREEBIE. She had some difficulty as many students do, especially the first time learning it. I showed her for a number like 64 on a number line that the 4 is closer to 60 then it is to 70 so you round down to 60. After showing her a few examples she seemed to get it! This is a FREEBIE! Watch out for the white light bulb it burnt out so you must go back to start! I did not put a question on each card so you can use them for odd/even, what number comes next or before, mentally add 10, pick 4 and put in order, etc. They can also be used as traditional task cards. Click the picture to grab for FREE and show your kindness by leaving positive feedback. It cost me money to make it free for you!

We wrapped up tutoring working again on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping. Thankfully she is in a private school and does not do Common Core so we can work on them in the traditional way. She doesn't even call it regrouping. She has been taught it is called borrowing like I was taught when I was a kid in school! We used my 2 digit Subtraction Christmas Task Cards. These are traditional task cards and do NOT come with a board game. I however, almost always put them with a board game to make it more fun. You can purchase the task cards by clicking on either picture.

Tutoring Tuesdays - October 17th, 2017

Halfway through the month. Where has time gone? Let's get to the tutoring fun from last week!

First we worked on skip counting using my Skeleton Skip Counting Task Cards, which comes with this fun board game. Land on a skeleton and you get chased back to start. The cards are for 2's, 3's, 4's, 5's, and 10's. 2's, 5's, and 10's have patterns up to 100 where 3's and 4's go no higher than 30. Click the picture to grab it!

Next we worked on telling time to the hour and half hour. We used my Telling Time to the Hour and Half Hour Drawing Hands Task Cards. If laminated children can write on the cards. There is also a recording sheet and an answer key. The recording sheet has the clocks on it so your student can draw the hands on the recording sheet after looking at the task card to see what time to draw in case you want them to turn something in. This game board is NOT included, but you can get it with my Witches Sight Word Race. I used the game board to make the task cards fun in tutoring. Land on a spell book you must go back to start!
