Tutoring Tuesdays - December 25th, 2018

I hope everyone had a great Christmas! I meant to share my tutoring fun a little before Christmas, but got too busy. So I will share it the day after, even though it is now Wednesday. I tutor actually on Wednesdays, but share the week after. There will be no tutoring the next two weeks, but I do have some fun things for you including my most popular products for only $1.50! This week I started working with her on very basic order of operations by learning to use the parentheses first. We used my new Ornaments Order of Operations Race, which you can currently only get in my VIP Facebook group. It is a FREE download!!! Join here.  There are 24 cards, a recording sheet, and answer key.

Next we worked on identifying fractions from using halves all the way to tenths using my new Clip It Identifying Fractions Task Cards. There are 24 task cards in all. There is a recording sheet and answer key. You don't have to have them clip it, you can have them just circle it if you prefer.

We finished tutoring working on some PreAlgebra using my PreAlgebra Balancing Number Equations Snowballs. This comes with a game board, recording sheet, and answer key. There are 24 cards in all. You can use them like traditional task cards and skip the game board if you prefer.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 18th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Wow next will be Christmas. Where has time gone? I am tutoring Wednesday this week and usually post on the following Tuesday, but that will be Christmas day and people won't be on to read it so I may either post it early or right after Christmas. I hope each of you who celebrates has a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Last week, we continued to work hard on long division strongly focusing on dividing by 6-9, but did work on some lower numbers too. This time we used my Elves Long Division With Remainders! It comes with 24 task cards in color and black and white plus a recording sheet and answer key so you can use it for Scoot or any other cooperative group activity, small groups, or centers! You can also put it with a game board like I do in tutoring. I also have her check the answer since she does that in school and it works on multiplication.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 11th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Wow we are getting closer to Christmas. Even here in Florida we have had lows in the 40's on some days. That is freezing for me! I know you Northerners will laugh!

Like last time in Tutoring I started out giving her mixed addition and subtraction 4 digit regrouping and 4 digit multiplication by 1 digit. She got them all right!

We then moved on again to long division with 4 digits practicing mostly with dividing by 6, 7, 8, and 9. Her division was great, but she forgot sometimes to bring down the last number so we'll work on that more next week. We used my new Disguised Reindeer Long Division With Remainders Task Cards. There are 24 task cards in color and black and white that have the children dividing by 2 through 9 with 4 digits. A recording sheet and answer key are included. If they write really small they can write on the cards if laminated.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 4th, 2018

Happy Tuesday and happy December! I hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving who celebrate here in the United States and that you also found some great bargains during Black Friday and Cyber Monday!

The week of Thanksgiving, I did not tutor, but I was back in action last week with the super smart 3rd grader! I started off giving her problems on the white board with adding money with regrouping, subtracting with regrouping, and multiplying 4 digits by 1 digit.

We next continued to work on long division with my Christmas Gifts Long Division With Remainders Task Cards. I threw in more cards that had dividing by 6, 7, or 8 along with some easier ones. She did a great job! These come with 24 task cards in color and black and white with dividing by 2's through 9's. An answer key and recording sheet are also included.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 26th, 2017

I hope those that celebrate Christmas had a wonderful Christmas!

I won't be tutoring the next two weeks while the wonderful 2nd grader enjoys her vacation, but be sure to hop back to my blog this Thursday and January 1st for some awesome deals!

One thing she has had some difficulty with in school is counting by 1's from a given number to 1,000 and counting backwards from that number so I created these Numbers to 1,000 Bug in my Marshmallow Before/After Numbers to 1,000 Task Cards. I didn't think it was possible to write on them even if laminated as I had to make the spaces small to create this center. Well the 2nd grader showed me it is possible if you write really small. Otherwise, they can tell their partner the answer, write it on a white board (which we started doing) or write it on the included recording sheet. Since Christmas was near I used my Reindeer game board with it, but it comes with the game board pictured with bugs in the marshmallows. Land on a bug go back to start! So much fun! I will be working more with her on this skill especially where she has to write what comes next after 199, 299, 399, etc. and counting backwards from 200, 300, or a ten like in 230, 280, etc. Those were the tricky ones for her. She will get it though with more practice!

After playing this one I worked on groups of a fourth with her using these Snowmen Fractions of a Group Task Cards. She circles how many are in the group and then tells me the answer. If your students have trouble I suggest using manipulatives and 4 cups and have them divide them into 4 cups. Target has cute snowmen your students would love in their dollar section.

We finished with answering questions on a graph that I found on TPT. Another skill she's been working on.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 19th, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Everyone should be headed out on winter break soon or those in Australia, New Zealand, etc. heading on summer break. I wish everyone a Merry Christmas that celebrates this wonderful holiday. Happy Holidays to everyone else.

I started out with the 2nd grader reviewing adding 9 on a freebie I found on TPT. I forgot to take a picture of that. She had to try to get 3 in a row before I did. She is doing a great job memorizing her addition facts!

Next, I introduced her to a new skill rounding to the 10's place. We used my Christmas Lights Rounding to the Ten's Place FREEBIE. She had some difficulty as many students do, especially the first time learning it. I showed her for a number like 64 on a number line that the 4 is closer to 60 then it is to 70 so you round down to 60. After showing her a few examples she seemed to get it! This is a FREEBIE! Watch out for the white light bulb it burnt out so you must go back to start! I did not put a question on each card so you can use them for odd/even, what number comes next or before, mentally add 10, pick 4 and put in order, etc. They can also be used as traditional task cards. We wrapped up tutoring working again on 2 digit subtraction with regrouping. Thankfully she is in a private school and does not do Common Core so we can work on them in the traditional way. She doesn't even call it regrouping. She has been taught it is called borrowing like I was taught when I was a kid in school! We used my 2 digit Subtraction Christmas Task Cards. These are traditional task cards and do NOT come with a board game. I however, almost always put them with a board game to make it more fun. Tutoring Tuesdays - December 12th, 2017

Happy Tuesday! Just a couple of weeks until Christmas for those who celebrate! The kids are getting restless so check out some of the fun things I did in tutoring that you may want to use in your classrooms.

First we reviewed nouns using my new Winter Activities Nouns Task Cards! This new set includes 18 task cards and a fun game board. Land on a child doing a winter activity and children get to go again! So much fun. Of course the task cards can be used in traditional ways as well like Scoot, Quiz, Quiz Trade, etc.

Next we worked on plural nouns with my new Plural Nouns Christmas Task Cards. This set doesn't come with a game board, but I put it with a fun game board anyway as that is a fun way to use task cards during tutoring or in the classroom at a center. This set includes 24 task cards, a recording sheet, and answer key, and all the sentences have to do with Christmas.

We finished with reviewing nouns and verbs using my Nouns and Verbs Task Cards. This is a big set of 48 Task Cards, recording sheets, and answer key. It does not come with a game board, but I again put it with a game board to make it more fun in tutoring.

Tutoring Tuesdays - December 5th, 2017

Wow, it is already December! I hope each of you had a great Thanksgiving break and had a blast shopping until you dropped at the many stores and perhaps my little online stores. 😀

Last week, I started out reviewing 2 digit subtraction with the amazing 2nd grader. We used my new Christmas Trees 2 Digit Subtraction Regrouping Task Cards with the game board that comes with it. She did a great job!

Then we reviewed fractions with my new Ornaments Fractions of a Group! I brought out cups for her to put counters in them to help figure out the fraction of the group, but she didn't really need it. You can have the kids use those two colored circle counters or buy little erasers. Target, Amazon, etc. has cute little Santa ones that would work great with this activity. It includes a worksheet.

Freebie Fridays - December 16th, 2016

Happy Friday! Only a couple of more Fridays left of 2016. Wow where has time gone? I'm debating whether to do a link up next Friday with Christmas Eve and Christmas Day following that Friday. Here's a new freebie I put out last week "Gingerbread Man Doubles Race". This fun game has been tested and tried out in tutoring. Students roll a dice and move that many spaces. They solve the equation they land on. Should they land on a fox he chased the Gingerbread Man back to start, but if they land on a gingerbread man he got away from the fox so they can go again!  Click the pictures to grab this fun free game. Christmas and Holiday Songs

Many of you will be having your holiday parties soon before leaving on winter break! Your students will love these Christmas, Kwanzaa, and Hanukah songs from The Learning Station. Many of the songs have fun movements that make a fun brain break after doing a lesson or for your party. Others are animation videos and fun classic songs that your children will be sure to enjoy.

Freebie Fridays - November 18th, 2016

I hope the United States teachers, parents, and children had a wonderful Thanksgiving! Only a few more weeks and everyone will get Christmas break off!

Last year I created a line of products called Word Boxes where students can write on the word boxes when the activity is laminated or in plastic sleeves. It helps children learn how to spell words in a hands on way and also helps them learn which numbers touch the top, middle, or below line. Here is a Freebie your students will be sure to enjoy "Christmas Word Boxes". Unlike my phonics word boxes this one has a word bank since the words are much harder for younger students. It also makes it easy to differentiate as some children can have the word bank and others don't for more of a challenge.
