I know many teachers host these such giveaways including some with thousands of Facebook followers. Many of these teachers probably don't realize it and you might be one. I learned this from Charity Preston's Teaching Blog Traffic School. This is one of the few things that I am allowed to share from the class. Facebook has a terms of service. Their terms of service says that you cannot have people like your page for an entry, leave a comment, leave their e-mail address on your page for an entry, and you cannot announce winners on your Facebook page until you have e-mailed the person or announced it on your blog or somewhere else first. You cannot collect entries on Facebook Facebook can shut you down. I do know of one person who had over 2,000 fans that was shut down by Facebook due to a contest and had to start their page all over. I would hate for you to be the next one.
You can, however, use an outside app like Rafflecopter or Shortstack. I don't know Shortstack, but with Rafflecopter you can click Install to Facebook and it will put it on a tab on your page! Pretty easy! Then it is okay to count entries for liking your page, leaving a comment on it, etc as long as you collect the entry through Rafflecopter. Be sure to also in the terms and conditions in Rafflecopter state that you are collecting entries and personal information through Rafflecopter and not on Facebook. Then you are covered! I would be happy to help any of you if you are having difficulty getting it to work.
