Twins Mac & Madi's Birthday Book Review and Giveaway!

It's been awhile since I've blogged, but I was asked if I would review the book Twins Mac & Madi's Birthday by Linda Herron! So I was given a copy of the book to review and I also giving away a copy as well! Keep reading to find out how to win a copy!

Twins Mac and Madi is a series of picture books geared mostly to children up to 2nd grade. I was given the chance to review the book is the series about their birthday! The twins usually dress alike, want to eat the same things, have the same colors, etc. for their birthday party. This year the twins decided to do everything different for their birthday party by wearing different clothes, colors, different things to eat, etc. Read this book to see how their family and friends treat them after they decided to be different!

This book is filled with sight words and has some repetitive phrases that are perfect for younger readers. The author, Linda Herron, herself is a twin. After the story she even includes some great tips for parents on how to handle twins based on her own experience! I absolutely enjoyed this book and I am sure you and your children or students will as well!

You can enter to win a copy of the physical book if you are in the United States or Canada. Otherwise, if she has a digital copy I'll ask her to send that to someone internationally. The giveaway starts August 28th, 2021 at 12:01am and ends at 11:59pm on September 2nd. The winner will have 24 hours to claim their prize once I have emailed him or her. If the winner does not respond to the email with their mailing address that I can give to the author I will select a new winner.  If you don't win you can purchase the book on Amazon by clicking HERE.

Tutoring Tuesdays - March 19th, 2019

Happy Tuesday! In 2 more days, I will be the big 40 years old!!! Before, I get to tutoring, I am doing a very special deal for my birthday and beyond!

My sweet little Shih Tzu wound up at the Animal Hospital after making continuous noises a week ago last Friday. She wound up passing away twice as they were doing xrays and they brought her back to life twice with CPR. She wound up needing oxygen and has been there quite a bit since then. She is home with me now! I have created a Go Fund Me page to help with these crazy vet bills. If you would like to donate, I will send you TRIPLE that amount in teaching resources. All you have to do is email me at tigermagic@bellsouth.net the products you want and I will get them to you in 24 hours or less. Usually quite quickly unless I'm sleeping! So if you donate $5, you'll get $15 worth of things in my store! $10 you'd get $50! $1, you'd get $3! This is far better deal than any site wide sale and you'll be helping me with my dog! Click the picture to check out my Go Fund Me, see the vet bills, and read the updates! If you can't donate, please share with your pet and animal friends! This is why the past two weeks I've posted covers, rather than in action, but I may change them out when I have time.

Help with Shih Tzu ICU Hospital Bills

We started tutoring working on equivalent fractions using my Equivalent Fractions Task Cards! There are 24 cards, a recording sheet, and a sample answer key (there are too many possible answers). These are in black and white. She did a great job!

We finished tutoring working on more 4 digit by 2 digit long division task cards using my 2 Digit Long Division St. Patrick's Day Bugs Task Cards. These come in color and black and white and includes a recording sheet and answer key! She had some difficulty mostly with putting the numbers on top after figuring out how many. We will keep working on this one. She will get it! She's only in 3rd grade yet doing 5th grade math!

Brain Breaks Action Songs: Let's Move by The Learning Station Giveaway

By clicking the CD picture above you can hear snippets of the songs. The CD opens with a song called "Good Morning" that is perfect for morning meetings or circle time. The CD ends with a great song called "Goodbye Song" that is perfect to end your day and is a fun take on the animals goodbye poem that many of you have probably seen around Pinterest. There are videos for both of these songs that you can hear by clicking the hyperlinks!

My favorite on the CD is "Happy Dance." I believe we should all start our day in a happy mood and this song will certainly do that. Children will love doing all the fun movements. Check out the video below!

Positive Fridays - End of the Year Recap

Wow, what an amazing year of getting to touch so many different children's lives.  It made it worth subbing for a year, but it has also given me the itch to want to come back into the classroom and teach again more than ever.  The subbing experience has shown me that I can teach older children and do it well and still have the energy to keep up with Kindergarten!  My positive attitude has made many children, teachers, administrators, etc. keep smiles on their faces and in turn that makes others smile!

Without further ado, here are my top 10 moments from the past school year!

#10 - Making terrific relationships with students, teachers, and parents at so many different schools.
#9 - A Kindergarten student two different times hopping up and down on her balcony to yell good morning to me.
#8 - Getting in the dunk tank in Titusville at Fox Lake Park.  A week later I subbed in a Kindergarten class in a nearby city. The mother dropped a boy off who was crying because his teacher wasn't there.  I went up to him and reminded him that he and his brother had dunked me not once, but notice each.  He immediately stopped crying and became my buddy the rest of the day!  It was nice to touch his life by getting in that dunk tank, which I was so nervous to do!
#7 - A wonderful 3rd grader bringing me a balloon for Valentine's Day and then again for my birthday.
#6 - Having the best birthday in the world at a wonderful school.  The office clerk went above and beyond by making me a chocolate cake, giving me 3 balloons (the last one didn't deflate until 2 days before school got out - over 2 months after my birthday!), and a card signed by everyone in the office.  She then had Kindergarten sing Happy Birthday to me.  An amazing parent of another Kindergarten child in another class who is also the cashier at the school had the kids sing to me again!  Then in the cafeteria when I went to say hi to the amazing 3rd and 4th graders, a teacher took the microphone and had the entire cafeteria sing Happy Birthday to me!  It was wonderful seeing so many children in different grades smiling ear to ear as they sang to me.  A few got out of their seats and even came running to me.
#5 - Several Kindergarten children, 1st graders, 2nd graders, and 3rd graders telling me how much they want me to teach them next year.  These children were at different schools!
#4 - A wonderful Kindergarten student wrote I love you, Mr. H. on a dry erase board.  I told her that I loved her too.  She went back to that dry erase board and started writing, then asked me how do you spell more.  I told her and she said I had to read it again.  She wrote I love you more.
#3 - Spending 3 amazing days in a Kindergarten class in a row (would later sub for them many more times) and getting a call from the secretary to come back to sub for them because all they did was constantly talk about me the entire next week.  Throughout the rest of the school year, the children ended up running up to hug me many times while in line and lunch and always asking me when will we see you again?  They made me miss having my own Kindergarten class so much.  I miss these children a bunch!
#2 - Subbing for an amazing group of 3rd/4th graders for an entire month.  These children taught me that teaching older children can be just as rewarding and fun.  They continued to fill my bucket with kindness by always going out of their way to make me smile even after I left them.  Many of these children have asked me to teach them next year, which is so sweet!  I sure do miss these wonderful children!

DRUMROLL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

#1 - A wonderful sweet 3rd grader who came up to me and told she had something personal to tell me 3 days before I left the 3rd/4th graders.  She started crying and told me she didn't want me to go.  At another time during the year she helped another boy feel better after he stated nobody would play with him and he was in tears.  She later stood up for me along with 2 other special children when I wasn't being treated kindly.  This wonderful girl continued to show her kindness by going above and beyond to make me smile anytime she saw me.  She is an amazing bucket filler and will be missed.

So that's my positives for this school year.  I'll be back on Positive Fridays only if I get the opportunity to work with amazing children this summer.  Otherwise, I'll be back with more Positive Fridays next school year!  Thank you again to all the students, parents, teachers, and administrators at each school I subbed at for showering me with love and kindness.  You made me feel super extra special!

Feel free to leave comments on the positives that happened during your school year!!!  It would brighten my day!  Keep on smilin'!

Positive Fridays - Week of March 19th, 2012

I had another incredible week subbing at 3 different schools, including a new one for me! I have some positives to share with you this week and I hope you have many positives to share back with me.

- I started the week out with 2 days in Kindergarten at one school with the same group of children.  I subbed for them about 3 weeks ago so it was nice to be back with children that I knew!  The custodians told me what a great job I always do with keeping the room clean and they really appreciate me making sure the children clean up after themselves!

- At the same school a teacher told me how she wants me to teach on their team next year and she has already been telling the office how much the Kindergarten teachers and children love me.  Then she asked her class if I am the best sub ever and they all yelled yes and put their hands in the air full of smiles!  I have only subbed for her class once about a month ago so that felt really good!

- Wednesday was my 33rd birthday and I was back in Kindergarten where I was the past 2 weeks and at the school that I've been at the most since January.  They made my birthday more special than any school I've ever taught at.  The office clerk made me a cake, everyone in the office signed a card for me, and I was given 3 balloons.

It gets so much better.  The office clerk in the morning walked into my room to give me something to send home with the children and had the whole class sing Happy Birthday to me.  Then when it was lunch time the cashier stopped the line and had them sing to me again.  I then walked over to say hi to the amazing 3rd and 4th graders who I taught for a month and as I was talking to one wonderful child a teacher got on the microphone and announced it was my birthday and lead the whole cafeteria in singing Happy Birthday to me.  The children were all smiling ear to ear.  A couple of 3rd graders in another class who I had only subbed for once and another Kindergarten child came over from their table to me to wish me a Happy Birthday.  The children at this school have a heart of gold and so do the teachers, administration, and office staff.  If anyone from that school is reading this thank you from the bottom of my heart for making feel so special and loved on my birthday.

- Thursday I subbed at a school I've never been too, but one that I have wanted to sub at for awhile now.  I was in 1st grade and everyone was so nice and thanked me for subbing at their school.  The children told me how much they loved me and wanted me to come back.  They called me the best teacher ever!  A 3rd grader also came up to me on the playground who I taught for a month at the beginning of last year.  We were both so excited to see each other as she was a really great student who I hated to see leave.  She wants me to sub for her class!

- I end the week today before heading on Spring Break back at the school that treated me so amazing on my birthday in 2nd grade.  It's the first time I've taught 2nd grade at the school and I can't wait until next Friday to let you know all know all the positives from that day.

- My blog has over 25,000 views!  I have over 150 followers.  I have 170 on FB.  You all are amazing what can I say!  Thank you, thank you, thank you!  If you are interested in winning a music CD by The Learning Station head on over and enter!  The contest ends Sunday night at 11:59 Eastern.  The Learning Station Music CD Giveaway

Now it is your turn what happened that was positive to you?  As always thank you for hoppin' by Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings!
