Positive Fridays

Each Friday, I am going to try to post a blog for everyone to share in the comments some positive experience at school or your personal lives.  This has been a big hit on my Facebook page and I hope it will on my blog as well.

I was praised by the assistant principal on Wednesday during a parent conference.  I was told that I'm very organized, structured, am always working with the students and that the students really love me.  It made me feel so great hearing that and to hear it from the assistant principal in front of a parent was truly awesome!

I hope that you also have a super positive experience to share from the week.  Please reply on the comments below and don't forget to sign up on the RSS feeds to the right of the page!  It looks like this, but don't click it here, go to the right side of the page!

  1. Great idea! (There's some more positive feedback for you :)

I finished DRAing most of my students this week, and I had some GREAT improvements! One of my kids moved from a 10 to a 20! So I'm on cloud nine :)

    1. Chrissy,
Thanks for sharing that with us! So glad one of your kids made that giant leap! I bet the student is also proud of his or herself and if not they should be!

  2. Such a great thing to do! Today, my students INDEPENDENTLY applied the testing strategies we have been learning all year...even though my aide didn't ask them/require them to. Such a proud teacher moment.

    1. Thank you so much Stephanie! Someone else came up with the idea and told me I should do it after I started doing it on my FB page. :-) Wow that is so amazing when they actually apply testing strategies without you telling them too! I don't know many children who have done that!

  3. I guess my positive is conducting the school spelling bee yesterday? I think I feel more relief than anything! :)

    1. Way to go girl! That is very positive, I hate conducting anything in front of a crowd! So you sure should be proud!

  4. My kiddos took their quarterly math benchmark today and I had 2/3 of my kiddos pass(score of 70% or higher), that is up from less than 50% last quarter!! That also included a kiddo who jumped from a 51% to a 75% and this is the first benchmark he has passed all year!! The smile on his face was a mile wide!!

    1. Tiffani, very similar to what happened to me last year. I had 1 student pass the incoming Math benchmark and each time I gave a district test, which obviously had tougher skills, that percentage jumped like yours! It is an amazingly awesome feeling! Good for you and your kids, especially the one boy, glad he feels happy too!

  5. Hi Brian - I'm a new follower, and love this idea!

We have a new positive behavior program at our school, and my kiddo who struggles the most with some major behavior issues just achieved "Student of the Month" for good (in his case, most improved) behavior. We had a dance to honor Students of the Month today, and my kiddo was so, so pleased with his hard work on behavior this month. His smile was a mile wide when he got his picture taken with the principal, and to hear him keep exclaiming, "I'm so excited! I got Student of the Month!" made my entire day.

    1. Hi Kara,
Thank you so much for following and for the kind words!

That sounds like a wonderful behavior program. It sure is exciting when the one who has the most behavioral issues makes much better choices! I hope he'll feed off of getting this award and continue to do better and better! :-) Brian
