Music From My Childhood

Today's post has nothing to do with teaching, I thought it would be interesting to look back at what each of us listened to growing up as a child.  Currently it seems like children are enjoying the music of Miley Cyrus AKA Hannah Montana, Justin Bieber, Adele, Joe Jonas, etc.  Perhaps we could use children's favorite music as an incentive at the end of the day sometimes for good behavior!

For me, I loved going to the Smoky Mountains in TN and taking a trip to Dollywood.  Dolly Parton was an idol of mine growing up.  I loved her songs "Coat Of Many Colors," "Love Is Like A Butterfly," "9 to 5), and "Smoky Mountain Memories" among others.  I always enjoyed listening to the Kingdom Heirs, a gospel group while at Dollywood among other shows.

Dolly even has a wonderful Children's Book out for "Coat of Many Colors" you can check it out here:

The other big musical influence on me growing up was The Beach Boys!  I know quite a different direction from Dolly.  I enjoyed jamming to 409, Fun, Fun, Fun, and Good Vibrations.  I am so thrilled that The Beach Boys are back together and just put out a new CD "That's Why God Made The Radio."

I also found some old cassettes and CDs from my childhood of Shaq rapping, Vanilla Ice, and The Backstreet Boys.

In Middle School, I had to ride the school bus and they constantly played R&B.  One day they switched it to Country and fell in love with Reba McEntire, Tim McGraw, Garth, The Judds, John Michael Montgomery, George Strait Joe Diffie, Travis Tritt, and others.  To this day I'm a huge country fan!  I enjoy the newer music from around 1988 to present.  I don't care for the older stuff, but I do still love me some Dolly Parton!

Now it is your turn put in the comments what you listened to as a child growing up!  As always thanks for hoppin' by Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings and making me smile!  Keep smilin'!
