"Don't Drink The Pink" Book and Giveaway

It's been awhile, but I'm ready for a GIVEAWAY! How about you? Who would like to win a children's book that is perfect for a parent to read as a bedtime story to their child or for a classroom? I'm always thrilled when Arielle at TaleBlade Press asks if I am interested in doing a book giveaway, especially when it is by B.C.R. Fegan!

This book is called "Don't Drink The Pink" by B.C.R. Fegan and illustrated by Lenny Wen. In this story, Grandpa and Madeline share a special bond. Each birthday her Grandfather gives her a magical birthday experience that she will never forget. He always makes sure that she knows not to drink the pink. What will happen if she drinks the pink? You will have to read this fun story filled with imagination to find out! 

"Don't Drink The Pink" also helps children learn phonemic awareness skills like rhyming and oral language, as well as colors, ordinal numbers, and what happens as one gets older. I love that the colors and ordinal numbers are in bold faced print so you could even use those to practice reading as sight words. The beautiful illustrations by Lenny Wen help bring the story to life!

Where The Wild Things Are Book, Song, and Video

One of the most popular classic children's books is "Where The Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak. This great book helps spark children's imagination.

Did you know that this classic book is a song and now has a music video for it? That's right The Learning Station just released a video for their internationally hit song "Wild Things". This is a fun brain break song with incredible graphics. Children will love doing the fun movements that the wild thing makes. Children absolutely love Freeze Dance songs and this is a freeze dance song! The song is featured on the hit CD "Literacy In Motion" by The Learning Station. The hit CD also includes songs like "Five Little Monkeys", "I Know An Old Lady", "Green Eggs and Ham", and many more!



"Where The Wild Things Are" is also now a movie! It would be great to have children read the book, watch the movie, and listen to the song and then compare and contrast them!

Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

There's some great books, movies, and even a song that teach about feelings. I love Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst to help teach about feelings and how to handle them. Be sure to check out some other great Alexander books here.

You may have the CD "Literacy In Motion" by The Learning Station, which includes a song that goes with the book and movie called "Sad, Bad, Terrible Day". Just a few days ago The Learning Station released a video to go with this great song!

Mom Made Us Write This!

I received an e-mail a couple of weeks ago asking if I'd like to review the book "Mom Made Us Write This In The Summer" by Ali Maier.  I received a copy of the book and the offer to give one away to one of my blog readers in return for a book review!  Click the picture to purchase the book on Amazon.

This book is written for children in grades 2nd through about 5th grade.  The story is about two twins Maggie and Max who get on each others nerves so their mother decides to have them share a journal to write in all summer long!  They take turns picking a topic to write on.  Then the other sibling reads the entry and writes little things in the margins before writing their own entry on the topic.  They write about things that children can relate to like ice cream, hotels, roller coasters, doctor visits, and back to school shopping among others.  They also get to draw and doodle all over the entries.  It is interesting to see the different funny views that each one has about each topic.

This story would make a fantastic read aloud or for children to read independently at school or even at home.  If you are a homeschooling parent of more than one child you may want to try this idea with your children.  Give them one journal and have them take turns picking a topic and writing on the same topic.  It's a great way for children to learn to share and get along with each other.  It could also work in the classroom if you pair students up.  It may be one way to get children to learn to love writing!

Super Moon

How many of you went outside the last two nights to see the Super Moon?  My pictures are probably not as good as many that are out there, but I thought I'd share pictures of the super moon from my house in Florida!  Feel free to share your pictures if you have any on  my FB page!

I live very close to the Space Center and actually used to work at Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex loading the tour buses, IMax shows, helping out in the retail store, etc.  It was a lot of learning more about space and meeting people from all over the world!

Whole Brain Teaching Book Club

Has anyone heard of Whole Brain Teaching?  I absolutely love it and it is something I would love to try if I get my dream job, unless of course the school is against the idea.  It is so engaging, that I believe it will work with the most difficult children and they will be having fun while learning.  It cuts down on a lot of pointless worksheets.  There is a fun attention getter, gestures, etc.  I could go on and on.
