Animal Project

One of the boys that I tutor had to do an animal project for homework for Science.  I was asked to help.  This specific project was a bit different because he had to come up with an imaginary animal.  The goal was to see to show that he understood vocabulary words like habitat, the kind of animal it is (mammal, insect, bird, etc.), camouflager, etc.  She also wanted him to use text features like maps, diagrams with labels, headings, subheadings, etc.

Check out the pictures of his amazing poster!  I am thrilled that he didn't just receive 100%, but he received a 110%!  The teacher felt he gave more information than he had too!

Here is the final product he made of Wingback Bear  It is a combination of a bear and butterfly.  He came up with the animal on his own.

The above picture is the full poster!

Here you have some information about the Wingback Bear with the subheadings.  You could use them as captions and put them under the pictures.  Either way would work fine!

This picture above shows the Wingback Bear with labels.

The last thing he put on the picture was his own drawing of the two animals before they ended up as one, full of glitter to make them stand out!

I hope you enjoyed the project idea that his teacher came up with and how the final product turned out.  Maybe you can do something similar in your classroom next year.  I had fun helping him look through magazines for pictures, and helping him put it together.
