My Favorite Freebie Linky Party

My friend Cynthia over at 2nd Grade Pad invited me to join her My Favorite Freebie Linky Party!  We all LOVE freebies so I just had to join in on this one.  Click the picture to jump to the linky party and keep on reading to learn more about my freebie.

My favorite freebie that I have made so far is:

It is my favorite because it is a fun game with a twist.  It also combines reading and math!  What better way than to practice two different skills in one game!  I have also had such great feedback for the game and when others like the concept of the game so much it's hard for me not to pick it as a favorite!

The story behind it Back when I was teaching 2nd grade many of my 2nd graders had a hard time recognizing sight words so I thought I would make a fun game that would help children learn sight words.  More often than not they needed work addition skills as well.  So I thought why not combine both skills.  Others have liked it so much that I have made other versions of the game using other skills, but keeping the twist in the game with the addition.  This game uses Dolch sight words and is appropriate for Kindergarten-2nd grade.

How to use it Print it out on cardstock and laminate it for durability.  You can then put it at a station or use it during small groups.  It could make for a good intervention!  Mix up the fish and put them in a stack.  Mix up the starfish and spread them out on the floor like you would in the game Go Fish.  Children take turns flipping a card over.  If they read the word correctly they pick a starfish and get that many points.  If they get it wrong their turn is over.  If the child picked any number other than 0 they have a choice, they can keep the points or pick another starfish from the pile.  If it is a zero they lose all points from the previous round.  If they get it right they add those points to their total.  They can go as many times as they want unless they get a zero.  Then put all starfish back in the pile and mix them up!  Children play to 50 points or until time is up.

Click on any of the cover page above to download the game for free!

I hope you enjoy the game and will take the time leave positive feedback if you decide to download it.  Please don't forget to hop on over to 2nd Grade Pad and check out the other awesome freebies!

As always thanks for hoppin' by Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings.  Keep on smiling!
