Tutoring Tuesdays - April 23rd, 2019

Happy Tuesday! It's been awhile since I've been able to tutor due to the last couple being canceled, but I finally got to tutor last Wednesday, the amazing 3rd grader! I hope each of you had a wonderful Easter!

Last week we continued working on 2 digit long division by 4 digit using my Easter 2 Digit Long Division With Remainders Task Cards. She did a great job on the division with some careless mistakes on the multiplication to check it. I see a lot of her in me as I made all kinds of careless mistakes in elementary school. Part of that was due to me going too fast. She doesn't fly through the work the way that I used to, thankfully! There are 24 task cards in color and black and white. I have included a recording sheet and answer key. If children write small enough they can write on the cards if laminated or put in plastic sleeves. Otherwise, use a white board for fun!

Tutoring Tuesdays - April 3rd, 2018

Happy April! I hope each of you had a wonderful Easter or Passover if you celebrate! I am not tutoring tomorrow as the 2nd grader is on spring break and her grandma is coming to visit so tutoring update will be in a couple of weeks.

Last Wednesday, we worked on perimeter again using my Perimeter Task Cards. I worked with her on squares some triangles. Some with missing numbers for the sides and some without. She did a great job and didn't miss a single one! I put it with an Easter game board, which doesn't come with these task cards. You can use the task cards traditionally as it does come with a recording sheet and answer key.

Next we worked on multiplication by 3 with my Panda Multiplication Race game. I had cards for all of the facts for your students so you can use what facts you would like to use. Some of the spaces have a number on it. You can have them go forward that many spaces or backwards if they land on it for added fun!

Then we worked on some fractions with 3rds. We worked on shading fractions with 3rds using my Shading Fractions Task Cards and then did a few with my Fractions of a Group Easter themed task cards. There's only a few of these task cards and you can grab them HERE. The picture takes you to the shading task cards.

Next we worked on Division by 3 using my Division Multiplication Bump Fluency Games. These are not yet available in my store. Be sure to follow my store and you will get an email when I add it to my store!

Tutoring Tuesdays - March 27th, 2018

Wow already the last Tuesday in March! Is it already starting to look like spring where you are?

I had another great session of tutoring last Wednesday with the 2nd grader! We started out working on 4 digit addition using my 4 Digit Addition Task Cards. She did a pretty good job! Like always I put it with a fun game board. These cards don't come with the game board, but can be used like traditional task cards.

4 Digit Addition Task Cards

Next we worked on Division by 2 using my Clip It Bunny Division by 2 Task Cards. I had her clip the answer using the clothespin, but you can have them circle the answer, write down the answer on the recording sheet, write down the answer on a white board, or tell their partner. The cards can also be used for Scoot, Quiz, Quiz Trade, etc. She showed great improvement!

Next we worked on Multiplication by 3 using my Zebra Multiplication Race game. This game you can get for FREE in my Facebook VIP Group! Land on a Zebra you get to go again, but land on a lion it chases the Zebra back to start. Zebras are my favorite animal so I decided to make an easy game with Zebras! I also have a couple sight word games with Zebras in my store.

We finished tutoring working on Perimeter. I found a worksheet for her to practice measuring around with a rule and then adding the sides together. We also used my Perimeter Task Cards that you can see in action from my previous blog post. This time we focused on rectangles with a 2 missing sides. She did great and didn't miss any!

Tutoring Tuesdays - March 13th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! My dog seems to be doing better. She doesn't have a heart murmur, but they still think she has heart disease and is on medication.

Last week, first I gave the 2nd grader another mixture of skills worksheet: adding 2 digit numbers without regrouping horizontally, ordering gram, kilogram, pound, and ounce by smallest to largest and picking one is more than a pound or less than an ounce from a group of pictures. Someday I may put these into a packet.

Next we worked on subtracting across 3 zeroes using my St. Patrick's Day Bugs Subtracting Across Zeroes Task Cards. I love putting task cards with a game board so I used a game board that comes with my sight word game with these cards. Land on a bug go back to start, but land on a rainbow you get to go to the other side. So much fun! She drew little people on the rainbows! She did a great job!

Then we worked on Dividing by 1 using both both types of division. We used my Easter Eggs Division by 0 and 1 Race, which is a FREEBIE! These cards come with the fun game board. Land on an egg with a snake go back to start, but land on an adorable chick they get to go again! She did a super job! If you download the game please show your kindness by leaving positive perfect feedback. Remember it cost me money to buy the clip art and fonts. If you can't use the division cards, you can use the game board with any set of task cards or flash cards!

We finished by using my Multiplication Wheels for multiplying by 3's and did a few more money problems.

Tutoring Tuesdays - April 11th, 2017

Welcome to tutoring Tuesdays! I really tutor on Thursday afternoons, but this gives me more time to show some things I worked on the previous week and possibly other sessions when I don't tutor. Pictures were taken before or after tutoring. Currently I tutor a 1st grader so these will be primary activities. These activities will work well in the classroom and for home school students too.

One of my favorites to use during tutoring is the game Bump! Bump is a fun engaging game where children roll a die (dice) or a spinner and cover the number on the game board (or word if a reading game). Then the next player goes. If the same child gets the same number (or word) twice they place a 2nd cube or counter (same color) on it and then that space is locked. If anyone gets it again they simply lose their turn. However, if there is only one on the space and the other player gets the same number or word they bump them off and take the space! This game can take 10 minutes or a half an hour. Here is a free one that we played yesterday perfect for Easter. Easter Baskets Subtracting from 13 Bump.

I also worked on Easter Addition 2 Digit Regrouping Task Cards using bunny task cards. I placed a game board that comes with the 30 task cards to make it more fun. Children solve an equations and  roll one die and move that spaces on the game board. If they land on a snake they go back to start, but if they land on a chick they get to roll or spin again. This game also comes with bunny spinners. I forgot to take a picture of that.

I have a lot of task cards and race games in my store for addition, subtraction, multiplication, sight words, fluency phrases, etc. They are a favorite of kids!

I finally we worked on some Addition and Subtraction Word Problems to 10. I gave her one task card at a time and she solved it on a dry erase board showing how to solve it.

Easter Egg Themed Freebie

If you subscribe to my store you know I posted my latest freebie last week.  It's 4 different board games, 2 each on addition and subtraction.  One game for addition and one for subtraction goes to 10 and the others go to 20.  That way you can use what works best for your students.  All you need to do is print and laminate the game board and have one die (dice) at the center and your Math center is complete!  I hope your students enjoy the games as much as I did making them.  I did NOT put the word Easter on the actual games so anyone can use them!!!  Click the picture to grab them for free!

I have linked this up to Classroom Freebies Maniac Mondays.  I hope you will hop on over and check out the other freebies!

Easter CVC Activity and Common Core Dolphins!

I have created some more fun activities that I hope your students will really enjoy!  First off Easter is coming this Sunday so I wanted to make another fun activity that the younger bunch can enjoy.  This one is a fun CVC sort where the child helps the rabbit find his eggs!  Click the picture to check out the fun activity!

My "Between Numbers" Dolphin Matching game is a pretty good success so I have since made a Dolphin Game on After Numbers to 120.  This fits the Common Core Standards for 1st grade!  Example the child would find the number that comes 39 _____.

In my store I also have a lot of freebies, great Easter products, and other sea life materials.  Check them out!  As always fellow teachers I sub with, parents, and students get my items for free. tigermagic@bellsouth.net

Easter Addition Common Core Games

I have been hard at work today making some new games for everyone. These games are geared toward the primary children. First up is a free 20 page game using Common Core Standards. The strategies focus on Adding +0 and +1. You can play match, go fish, or instead of Old Maid how about Hoppin' Hopkins! haha

Next up is a game that I am very proud of and I can't wait to get your feedback on it.  This game uses Common Core Standards also.  It is for Addition Strategies Doubles, Doubles +1 (also called Near Doubles), and Making 10.  Children turn a card over and answer the question if everyone agrees the answer is correct, they get to flip an egg.  If the egg is a number other than 0 they get that many points.  If it is 0 their total score is 0 and it is the next person's turn.  If it is not 0 they can decide to go again and again and again and keep adding the points to their total, but if they get a 0 they lose everything even from other rounds.

Example: Joe gets a 2, then a 3.  He now has 5 points.  He goes again and gets a 4.  Now he has 9 points.  Joe decides to stop.  On Joe's next turn he gets a 3.  He now has 12 total points.  Joe decides to try again and gets a 0.  He now has 0 total points.

Feel free in the comments to request other skills, I'd be thrilled to make games to meet your needs!!!  Click the pictures to go check out the game!

Thanks for hoppin' over to  Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings!  I appreciate every single of your support!  Love to you all!

Brian :-)
