Tutoring Tuesdays - February 5th, 2019

Happy Tuesday! Wow, already February! I hope your month is off to a great start. Welcome back to teaching to those in the southern hemisphere. I hope your year is off to a great start!

We started tutoring with fractions of a whole number with a denominator of 5 through 9 using my Fractions of a Whole Number Task Cards. This resource now contains 48 task cards with denominators of 2 through 9! There are 2 recording sheets and answer keys.

Next we worked on adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators. Yes she is a 3rd grader! We used my Adding and Subtracting Fractions Task Cards. There are 24 task cards in color only, but they easily print in grey scale as you can see below. I have included a recording sheet and answer key.

We finished tutoring doing a few problems on converting and adding or subtracting cups and pints where she had to change the cups to pints or the pints to cups. We used my Adding and Subtracting Cups and Pints Task Cards. I will admit it yes right here on my blog that I am human and I had the conversions mixed up. She drew a diagram to prove to me she was correct! I realized I had switched them and it showed me that she truly knew understood the skill since she was able to teach me! I was so proud of her. The answer key has been corrected as I had 2 proofreaders so no worries there. There is a recording sheet and answer key.

Tutoring Tuesdays - January 29th, 2019

Happy Tuesday! Wow already the last week of January! 2 weeks ago I didn't tutoring, but I tutored again last week. I had a successful tutoring session as she did a fantastic job on several different skills.

We started out working on finding the denominator of a fraction using my Finding The Denominator Task Cards. You can have children circle the denominator if you laminate it. There are 24 task cards in black and white, a recording sheet, and cover page. These are FREE! Please leave positive feedback and a positive rating if you download it.

Next we worked on fractions of a whole number using my Fractions of a Whole Number Task Cards. We worked on 1/2, 1/3, and 1/4. There are 24 task cards for those and I have 24 more in my set for 1/5 through 1/9 for 48 task cards in all. These come on black and white only and there are 2 recording sheets and answer keys.

Tutoring Tuesdays - September 18th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Just a few days away until Fall/Autumn comes. Many of you will enjoy the beautiful trees with their leaves changing colors. That doesn't happen in Florida! I am jealous. I hope someday to go on vacation somewhere during the Fall to see those beautiful trees.

I started out tutoring reviewing multiplication by 4's using my Multiplication Facts Bump Fluency. She did a terrific job!

Next we worked on shading fractions with denominators of 7, 8, and 9 using my Identifying Fractions Task Cards. Like always I put it with a game board to make it more fun. These cards currently have denominators of 2 through 10. There are 48 cards, 2 recording sheets, and 2 answer keys.

We then reviewed fractions of a group by using my Apples Fractions of a Group Task Cards. There are 12 in all, plus a worksheet. She no longer needs them, but you can get the little apple erasers at Target or Amazon and have the children use those to put into groups! After missing the first one as it had been a long time since this was practiced she didn't miss another question!

I introduced rounding to the hundred's place with my Scarecrows Rounding To the Hundred's Place Task Cards. This game comes with a game board. Land on a scarecrow the student gets to go again, but land on a crow and go back to start! It comes with 24 task cards, a recording sheet, and answer key.

Tutoring Tuesdays - July 3rd, 2018

Happy first Tuesday in July! I wish everyone a safe and happy 4th of July who live in the United States. It is our Independence Day.

This week I am just sharing the cards I used during tutoring rather than showing how I use them with a game. Most of them do not come with a game. You can use any of them with any game you have or buy other products in my store that have a game and combine them.

I started tutoring by introducing comparing numbers in the thousands by using my Patriotic Comparing Numbers in the Thousands Task Cards. There are 24 cards in all and it comes with a game board, recording sheet, and answer key. They are only in color. You can use them like traditional task cards. By laminating the cards, children can write on them with dry erase markers and wipe them when done.  Grab it for $1 on July 3rd and 4th, 2018.

Next I taught her how to compare fractions with like denominators using my popular Comparing Fractions with Like Denominators Task Cards. There are 24 cards, a recording sheet, and answer key. The cards are only in color, but as you can see print really well in b/w. These can also be purchased as part of a fraction bundle! She did not miss a single question and this was the first time she has worked on comparing fractions! Impressive!!! Just like the others if laminated the student can write on the task cards with dry erase markers!

We finished tutoring by reviewing adding 4 digit numbers by using my new Jungle Animals 4 Digit Addition with Regrouping. There are 24 cards in color and black and white, a recording sheet, and answer key. Some of the questions have no regrouping so students must understand when to regroup and when not to regroup. She also did not miss a question!

Tutoring Tuesdays - June 26th, 2018

Happy last Tuesday in June! Wow time is flying by! I did not tutor 2 weeks ago, but I did last week and had another terrific session!

I started out tutoring with a new skill for her. We worked on place value in the 1,000's place using my Fireflies Place Value in the 1,000's Task Cards. She was given a number and she had to read the question at the top to see if it wanted the ones, tens, hundreds, or thousands place. She did a fantastic job. If you use the board game like we did if you land on a firefly you get to go again.

Fireflies Place Value in the Thousands Task Cards

Next, I had her work on again putting numbers in the 1,000s place in order using my Books Ordering Numbers in the 1,000's. She did a great job, only missing a couple.

Then I introduced her to ordering fractions from least to greatest. These cards are not for sale, but you can get them from Jason's Online Classroom. He sells them as clip art. First I had her label each fraction. We worked on halves, thirds, and fourths. Then I had her put the halves in order, then the thirds, and last the fourths. She did a fantastic job!

We finished tutoring working on counting dollars and coins with twenty dollar bills. On a white board I had her write the amount using the dollar sign and decimal point. She did a fantastic job especially with counting those twenty dollar bills. I put it with a game board, which is not included with the cards. You can use them with any game board or as traditional task cards. A recording sheet and answer key is available!

Tutoring Tuesdays - April 17th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Half way through April already. Wow! I hope each of you are hanging in there as you near the end of the school year. I wish your students the best of luck on their tests. Last Tuesday my poor dog accidentally was cut under her eye at the groomer. :(  Next week she will get her stitches out.

Last Wednesday, in tutoring I started out with a worksheet that I will post sometime reviewing capacity conversions, feet to yards, yards to inches, days in a year, etc. We also did some division by 2 and telling if the time was A.M. or P.M.

Then we worked on ordering numbers in the thousands least to greatest using my Smart Flowers Ordering Numbers in the Thousands Task Cards. I simply gave her 4 cards and she put them in order from least to greatest. There are 10 sets of cards in all.

After that we worked on rounding numbers to the 10's place using my Princess Rounding Numbers to the 10's Race. She had asked me to create a princess game so I did just that! She did a fantastic job and didn't miss a single question!

Then we worked on some task cards where she had to name a third of a given number. There were dice on the cards to help her. This is a skill she was working on in school. These cards are not yet available for purchase.

After that we finished by working on giving back change using my brand new Giving Back Change Task Cards. I gave her money manipulatives to help her give back the change. I did them with her as I was helping introduce what she had been introduced to in school. Even her teacher said this is a very difficult skill for 2nd graders. I plan to do a few more with her this Wednesday.
