Tutoring Tuesdays - July 4th, 2017

Happy Independence Day to those of you in America! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and that our own children enjoy the fireworks!

Last week in tutoring we worked on 3 digit addition regrouping by using my 3 Digit Addition Regrouping Dragon Task Cards with the game board that comes with it. If you land on the dragon it blows smoke at you and chases you back to start! So much fun! I again had her write on the cards with a dry erase marker. They come with a recording sheet if you want to play Scoot or something else with your students.

We next reviewed Multiplication with 0 and 1's facts using the Write The Room Multiplication 0's and 1's Facts center, which is a freebie! I simply laid them on the floor and had her match them rather than walk around the room and put them up since this is tutoring and not in school and in a family's house. I had her write the number, but you can also have them write the number word! Please leave positive feedback if you download, thank you!

Then I taught her tally marks with my Clip It Apple Tally Marks. These go from 0 to 20. You have the child clip the answer. If you circle the answer on the back it makes it self checking. You can also have the student just circle the answer if you laminate them. I love using the clothespins because it works on fine motor control too. I did add a recording sheet so you can even use them to play Scoot!

St. Patrick's Day Linky Party

The next holiday that will be here before we know it is St. Patrick's Day! It is the perfect time to study and learn about Ireland and tie it in with some fun St. Patrick's Day games, centers, and activities.

My newest creation is for St. Patrick's Day focusing on addition facts to 10. There is a fun game board included where the student goes back to start if they land on the leprechaun. You can also just use the cards as flash cards, to play Scoot, Quiz, Quiz Trade or any other cooperative learning game.

I have also added beginning sound puzzles to my fun St. Patrick's Day Kindergarten Puzzles. This puzzle set also include alphabet matching, cvc words, counting to 20, and number words.

Interactive Student Notebook Numbers to 20 Plus Tips

First, I wanted to answer a couple of questions that have come up often with my Facebook Fans.  One question that I get often is when should I allow my students to start cutting and gluing.  That answer is simple, NOW!!!  They should be cutting and gluing day 1, yes even in Kindergarten.  Model, model, model, practice, practice, practice.  Most of my activities in my ISNs are easy straight lines to cut.  We all have those students with fine motor issues, you can assign them a buddy who is a fast finisher or help them yourself if they are struggling.

Another question, what do I do if my students take too long cutting and gluing.  I suggest setting a timer.  Children love to beat the clock!  Those that don't finish, don't have time to color and they can put all unfinished pieces in an envelope glued to the back!

Kindergarten Christmas Freebie!

As many of you know I started out my teaching career in Kindergarten.  I still find joy in the little ones when I substitute teach and it is so amazing when they see me with another class or see me in the store and come up to me so cheerful and give that great big hug.  My Kindergarten children always loved the hands on activities and fun games that I did with them.

I Have Who Has has always been a favorite.  Just for you Kindergarten teachers and the sight words may work in 1st grade as well I created 5 games for your class to enjoy for FREE!  Wait a minute did I say FREE?  I sure did!  The games are capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers to 25 (I went beyond 20 in case you have more children than that), and 2 different sight word games.  The sight words were pulled from Fry's first 100 Words.  You can get them for FREE in  my TPT or TN shop.  All I ask is for a nice rating and comment if you enjoy them.
