Featured Freebie Fridays - July 14th, 2017

Happy Friday! I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer! Some of you go back in just a week or two. Time sure is flying by!

This week's featured freebie is a new one. Write The Room Fruits Beginning Sounds is a fun literacy center that gets your students up and moving. When I taught  Kindergarten, Write The Room was my students favorite center. There are eight pictures of fruit that you can hang up anywhere in the room and children search for the fruit and write the beginning sound or the whole word (your choice) on the recording sheet. Tutoring Tuesdays - July 4th, 2017

Happy Independence Day to those of you in America! I hope you have a wonderful holiday and that our own children enjoy the fireworks!

Last week in tutoring we worked on 3 digit addition regrouping by using my 3 Digit Addition Regrouping Dragon Task Cards with the game board that comes with it. If you land on the dragon it blows smoke at you and chases you back to start! So much fun! I again had her write on the cards with a dry erase marker. They come with a recording sheet if you want to play Scoot or something else with your students.

We next reviewed Multiplication with 0 and 1's facts using the Write The Room Multiplication 0's and 1's Facts center, which is a freebie! I simply laid them on the floor and had her match them rather than walk around the room and put them up since this is tutoring and not in school and in a family's house. I had her write the number, but you can also have them write the number word! Please leave positive feedback if you download, thank you!

Then I taught her tally marks with my Clip It Apple Tally Marks. These go from 0 to 20. You have the child clip the answer. If you circle the answer on the back it makes it self checking. You can also have the student just circle the answer if you laminate them. I love using the clothespins because it works on fine motor control too. I did add a recording sheet so you can even use them to play Scoot!

New Facebook Group

Last Thursday, I did not tutor due to the little one recovering from getting her tonsils out so today I will tell you about some news thing going on.

• I have a new Facebook Group where I will be posting exclusive freebies. I already have one up now. It is also a place where you can share things that you would like me to create, test some products before I put them for sale and give me feedback on them, find out about exclusive sales (I have one going on now) only for group members, and more! • I have a Themes Survey that you can complete and get your choice of one product $3 or less in my store. I want to know what themes for each month do you use for your learning centers in reading and math! You only have until the end of the month to fill this out. Fill it out HERE. 
• My Primary Math Task Cards Bundle will be getting additional task card sets that are already up for sale added to it. That means the price will go up once they are added. If you want to grab them for just $30 now you can get any new sets I add for free! 
• Quite awhile ago TPT lifted the mandatory $3 checkout, but when you don't spend at least $3 on TPT the sellers get charged 15 more cents. Due to that and another charge coming soon I have no choice but to increase most of my $1 products to $1.50. These include many of my Write The Room Phonics products and more. The bundles will thus go up as well. Many of my $1.50 products will increase to $2.00. I am sorry that I have to bring the cost on to you due to my cost going up. Featured Freebie Fridays - June 9th, 2017

In case you aren't on break yet for next year try out my new freebie Write The Room Multiplication Facts 0's and 1's. I love write the room activities because children get to get up and move around the room. Then you can use the recording sheet as a grade if you want. There are 8 total cards. They are in color only, but the recording sheet and answer keys are in b/w. My students favorite center the last year I taught was write the room and I bet your students will love it as well! Write The Room is a favorite activity of many students because they get to get up and move around the room. They are having fun while learning! It is a perfect learning brain for them. Here is Write The Room Sports Sight Words that I made a couple of years ago that you can download for free by clicking on the pictures. There are two different levels of sight words. A very simple one and a more difficult one.

Animals, Animals, Animals!

Are your students learning about animals as the year winds down? I know many classes finish up Science with animals. It's a perfect time to integrate that with animals whether it is zoo, insects, ocean, jungle, birds, etc. into your literacy and math centers, stations, or rotations as well. Don't forget you can also play a song or two for your students.

One of my favorite animal songs from The Learning Station is "Special Friends", which also has a wonderful theme for friendships!

How I Run Reading Centers

I have been asked in the past and get asked this question from time to time during interviews, how do I run my reading centers?

Well it has varied group to group.  I have to wait until they are semi-independent first with independent work and figure out if I have a class who mostly gets along with each other or if it is a class full of behavior problems.  

In the years I've had tough kiddos I only put pairs of students together, which means 8 to 10 centers depending on how many students I have.  Typically, they do independent work first and when they are done they go to their center.  They go to one center day (this way I don't have to constantly come up with new centers) and work on unfinished work and then when I'm done with my first activities.

The past year when I taught Kindergarten, I went with 3 students per center and had 5 to 6 centers.  I went with 3 instead of 4 because I had 3 computers and that was one center.  I also had Library, Listening Center, Word Work, Games (these were educational games), and Writing center.  My students favorite center was writing when I included Write The Room.  They also completed independent work first, then did 1 center so I only had to change them weekly, worked on incomplete work, and then when I'm done with my work activities.
