Featured Freebie Fridays - April 21st, 2017

Easter may be over, but many teachers teach about animals as the year comes to a close so I thought this week I would share one of my very first FREEBIES "All About Rabbits" task cards. These cards are great for learning about Rabbits. Have your students go on the web and search for the answers to the task cards as they learn all about rabbits!

FREEBIE All About Rabbits Task Cards

You can also read them some books on rabbits and then play Scoot, Quiz, Quiz trade, place at a literacy or science center, station, or rotation or play any other cooperative group activity. Another favorite way to use task cards is to use them with any game boards. Click on the picture to grab it for free and be sure to leave positive feedback. Follow my store so you are notified of more freebies and other great teaching resources! Sometime in the next several days I will be posting a new freebie!

Share in the comments or on my FB page how do you use task cards? What are you working on that you would like to see me make task cards for? Any specific themes? I am happy to create things that meet your needs! I do not write stories so comprehension is not an option.

Animals, Animals, Animals!

Are your students learning about animals as the year winds down? I know many classes finish up Science with animals. It's a perfect time to integrate that with animals whether it is zoo, insects, ocean, jungle, birds, etc. into your literacy and math centers, stations, or rotations as well. Don't forget you can also play a song or two for your students.

One of my favorite animal songs from The Learning Station is "Special Friends", which also has a wonderful theme for friendships!

Check out the linky party below for more great songs featuring animals!

Here is one of my newer products involving animals. This is a set of CVC Zoo Animal games and centers. It includes a CVC Race game, 2 Write The Rooms, and 5 Bump games! Click the pictures to check it out! That's a total of 8 activities for one very low price!

Spring Linky Party

I can't believe that spring will be here on March 20th, the day before my birthday! I'll be 37 years old. I'll be tutoring on my birthday for an amazing child. I found out I went to elementary school with her dad!

Anyway, here are some new spring products that I have created. Click the picture to check them out. You can also check out other spring free and paid products, music, and ideas in the linky party below.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Easter-CVC-Puzzles-2441113

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Easter-CVC-Puzzles-2441113
Cut along the lines of my CVC Easter Eggs to create puzzles for your students. Perfect for an easy word work phonics center. R-Controlled Vowels and Vowel Pairs are also currently available. If you need another skill contact me.

https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Easter-After-Numbers-to-120-Task-Cards-2438767
Easter After Numbers Race is a fun game that gives the students two numbers and then they must name what number comes next. They roll one die or the fun bunny spinner and move that many spaces. If they land on a snake they go back to start, but if they land on a chick they get to go again. The cards can also be used as task cards.

Clip It Math Spring Kindergarten has addition and subtraction to 10, counting 0 to 20, and after numbers to 20.

My favorite spring video has to be "Spring Is Here" by The Learning Station. Your children will learn all about animals in spring and will also enjoy the wonderful animation and movements for this song. Perfect brain break that ties into Science.

Those who have teaching ideas, products free or paid, and music may link up as many as you want below as long as it has to do with spring.

Learn about the Body with Science Games for Kids

Catherine Ross is back to guest blog for me today with another blog post on making learning fun!

Learn about the Body with Science Games for Kids
The human body is an incredible thing, and to this day scientists do not fully understand the minute details of its functioning. You know what they say about the brain – if it was simple enough to be fully understood, we wouldn’t be able to! Children who encounter the human body’s incredibly complex systems in their textbooks may understandably feel overwhelmed by it all. You can help your kids develop a healthy appreciation and fascination for the human body and its functioning by letting them play cool science games for kids - whether online or offline.

Here are a few great science games that teach kids of various ages about the human body and its care.
Science Games for Young Kids
Disney Doc McStuffins  - Doc McStuffins is a toy doctor with her own TV show. Kids bring their toys to her when they fall sick, and she uses various doctor tools to arrive at a diagnosis. Then she treats them and sometimes gives advice on how to stay healthy. Whether or not your child watches the show, the game is great fun for kids. Players assist the doctor in her work, learning the names and uses of the different tools. They also learn how to stay healthy and play various mini-games with the doctor’s assistants. This science game can be played at no cost online.
Science Games for Older Kids
Re-Mission 2 – In this fun science game, kids learn about cancer and how the body’s defense mechanisms and the various treatments work against the growth of cancerous cells. The names and functions of the weapons and the enemies in the game are such that the player understands how the various medications work in real life. The six mini games are incredibly fun for everyone, and especially beneficial for cancer patients, helping them understand what is going on inside their bodies and motivating them to stick with their treatment. The game is free to play online.
Solve the Outbreak – What happens when a new illness suddenly strikes the population, and a large number of people start falling prey to it? The epidemiologists swing into action, trying to find out how the disease began, how to treat it and how to keep it from spreading further. In this cool science game, players get to take on the role of an epidemiologist, earning points and getting promotions based on how well each outbreak was handled. The game was developed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and helps educate the public about how they deal with the diseases affecting the nation. The game is available as a free app for the iPad.
BioDigital Human – BioDigital Human provides an incredible way to explore human anatomy in 3D. With stunning, life-like visuals and a set of controls that allow users to add or remove organs and body systems and turn the models any which way, this website is considered a wonderful learning tool for aspiring doctors! While not actually a science game, this website is so much fun to explore that it barely makes a difference. The basic features on this website are free to use, while additional features and services are available for a fee.

Showdown - Cooperative Group

I guess the past week was a busy one for me as I haven't blogged in a week.  I thought I would share a fun cooperative group activity that will help with team building and also can be used to check for mastery of skills or as a review for a test or quiz.  This fun activity is called Showdown!  It is a Kagan Cooperative Group activity.

Materials needed:
A stack of questions - Task Cards work perfectly for this!
Either paper and pencils or my favorite dry erase board and dry erasers

1. The teacher picks someone to be the captain of each group.  This person turns the cards face down and gives each student the materials.

2. The Showdown captain turns one card face up while everyone in the group answers the question.  As soon as each student answers the question they turn over there piece of paper or dry erase board.

3. When the teacher gives the Showdown signal every team member turns their paper or dry erase board over to reveal their answers.  If everyone is correct the team gets 5 team points.  If not everyone coaches each other to get the correct answer.  The team then gets 1 point.

4. Team members celebrate!

5. The student to the captain's left is the Showdown Captain for the next round.

6. Repeat the steps starting at step 2.

If you would like to check out my task cards click HERE.  Don't forget I do have free addition and subtraction fraction task cards!

Animal Science Unit

I have bit the dust and finally decided to make something that isn't reading, math, or classroom management related.  I made an Animal Science Unit.  You can purchase it on TPT for 50% off through July 4th HERE. This unit has fun posters, task cards, games, worksheets, assessments, and a project.  It is very heavy on vocabulary and applying the vocabulary.  Many of the things also come in B/W.  See the actual description or table of contents for exactly what pieces are b/w and which are in color only.  The amazing clip art is from Teachers Clip Art!

There are 20 vocabulary words: mammal, birds, amphibian, reptile, fish, insects, vertebrate, invertebrate, herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, consumer, producer, food chain, organism, environment, adaptation, predator, prey, and habitat.

Here's a couple of pictures of games in the packet.

Here's a couple of pictures of one of the worksheets and part of the assessment!

You can see an example of the project by checking out a previous blog post by clicking HERE

Any questions on this unit let me know!  I am very excited about it.  You can get it at my TPT store by click HERE or any of the pictures above.  I will update it with links to my other stores soon.
