Addition Unit: Interactive Student Notebook (ISN) - The Right Way!

If you missed my last blog post Interactive Student Notebooks that explained how to do them correctly click HERE to go read all about it!

This addition unit includes the Preview, Interactive, and Process pieces that make Interactive Student Notebooks (ISNs) useful for you and your students.  By using all 3 components you can see what your student's already know, guide them, and find out what they have learned.  As explained in an earlier piece you can take give them a grade on it!  It would work well as a formative.

Click any of the pictures below to check out my ISN Addition Unit in my TPT store.

Math Speed Addition Facts

Brand new activity that I have available in my stores called Math Speed Addition Facts!  This activity practices math facts 0 through 10, sums as high as 20.  I have also included Doubles and Near Doubles.

First print off as many 0 facts as you need for your students.  Give them one minute to answer as many questions as they can.  I suggest telling them they must go in order of the problems to get credit.  Any student who completes all 10 correctly gets to color in their beach ball!  The next time you do a timed test give the ones who got all 10 correct a 1's fact sheet.  Give the ones who missed 1 or more a 0 fact sheet.  This way you are differentiating based on your student's needs!  Keep going through all the facts through 9 facts and then do the doubles and near doubles!

I put them 2 per sheet to save you copies!

You can get Math Speed Addition facts on Teachers Pay Teachers or Teacher's Notebook.  Just click the name of the store.

Thanks for hoppin' by Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings.  Keep on smiling!

Easter Addition Common Core Games

I have been hard at work today making some new games for everyone. These games are geared toward the primary children. First up is a free 20 page game using Common Core Standards. The strategies focus on Adding +0 and +1. You can play match, go fish, or instead of Old Maid how about Hoppin' Hopkins! haha

Next up is a game that I am very proud of and I can't wait to get your feedback on it.  This game uses Common Core Standards also.  It is for Addition Strategies Doubles, Doubles +1 (also called Near Doubles), and Making 10.  Children turn a card over and answer the question if everyone agrees the answer is correct, they get to flip an egg.  If the egg is a number other than 0 they get that many points.  If it is 0 their total score is 0 and it is the next person's turn.  If it is not 0 they can decide to go again and again and again and keep adding the points to their total, but if they get a 0 they lose everything even from other rounds.

Example: Joe gets a 2, then a 3.  He now has 5 points.  He goes again and gets a 4.  Now he has 9 points.  Joe decides to stop.  On Joe's next turn he gets a 3.  He now has 12 total points.  Joe decides to try again and gets a 0.  He now has 0 total points.

Feel free in the comments to request other skills, I'd be thrilled to make games to meet your needs!!!  Click the pictures to go check out the game!

Thanks for hoppin' over to  Hopkins' Hoppin' Happenings!  I appreciate every single of your support!  Love to you all!

Brian :-)
