Tutoring Tuesdays - August 28th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Those who aren't back to teaching yet probably have about a week left if you are in the United States. Rest up and then have a terrific school year with your students!

I'm now tutoring on Tuesdays, but I will be sharing what I did the past Tuesday. Last week, we worked on 5 digit subtraction regrouping with my Wild West 5 Digit Subtraction Regrouping Task Cards. There are 24 task cards in both color and black and white. It includes a recording sheet and answer key. I always put it with a game board even though the set of cards I sell don't come with a game board. It is just another way to use the cards. I do have cowboy games that include a game board in my store.

We next worked on elapsed time again, but we also practiced drawing hands on a clock to the hour and half an hour. I created a digital and analog clock and laminated it so she could write on it with a dry erase marker. The clocks came from Graphics From The Pond.

We finished tutoring practicing dividing by 2, 3, 4, and 5 using my School Supplies Division Race. This game includes facts to 12 (I just pulled the 2's - 5's). Children who land on any of the school supplies get to go again. This game does come with a game board!

Tutoring Tuesdays - February 27th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Wow, already the last Tuesday of February. Where has time gone?

Last week I started out working with the 2nd grader on 4 Digit Subtraction using my 4 Digit Subtraction Regrouping Task Cards. Yes she is working on 4 digit problems in 2nd grade. She did a pretty good job. I put it with a game board that she chose. This game board does not come with these cards. You can use the cards as traditional task cards. It comes with a recording sheet and answer key.

Next we worked on multiplication. We focused on multiplying with factors of 0, 1, and 2 using my Winter Animals Multiplication Games. If she landed on a winter animal she got to go again. There are 14 games included in this set.

We then worked more on Roman Numerals using my Roman Numeral Task Cards. We especially worked on numbers in the 30's, 40's and 50's.

We finished tutoring with a little bit of telling time to the 5 minutes using elapsed time to the hour, hour and half, and two hours. We used my Telling Time the 5 Minutes Task Cards. I added a spinner that I created that I plan to add as an exclusive freebie sometime soon in my Facebook Group. We again used a game that is sold with other products that you can purchase HERE.

Tutoring Tuesdays - February 6th, 2018

Happy Tuesday! Wow, it's already February! I hope those of you who watched the Super Bowl enjoyed the game. I watched the Puppy Bowl instead.

Last week I worked with the 2nd grader more on counting dollars using my Counting Dollar Bills Task Cards. We worked on counting 1 dollar bills, 5 dollar bills, and 10 dollar bills. It also includes 20 dollar bills but we did not get that far. She only missed a couple. I put it with a new Unicorn game board. The game board is sold with my Unicorn Games. If you land on a unicorn you go again but if you land on the rainbow poop you go back to start!

We also worked on counting coins using my Counting Coins Clip It Task Cards. There are 24 cards where she had to find the the correct amount with the decimal point! She did an excellent job and didn't miss a single question! This set also includes 24 cards without the decimal point and just has the cent sign with different choices for answers.

We finished using my Valentine's Day 3 Digit Subtraction Task Cards. We only had time to do a few cards. I put them with the Valentine's Day Monster Board Game, which is not included with these task cards. You can get the game board for FREE. Land on a monster go back to start, but land on a bunny you get to go again!

Tutoring Tuesdays - July 25th, 2017

Last Thursday I had another great tutoring session with the incoming 2nd grader! I will miss her the next two weeks as she goes on vacation. The next time I tutor her she will be a 2nd grader. She continues to amaze me with how much she learns. She knows far more than most incoming 2nd graders having learned how to add up to 3 digits with regrouping (they don't use the term regrouping in her private school as they use traditional terms like carrying and borrowing), 2 digit subtraction with regrouping, time to the 5 minutes, money including quarters, and even multiplying 0's and 1's!

Silly me when I started teaching her to subtract with 2 digits I started right out with 2 digit by 2 digit subtraction, which she has done excellent on. So I backtracked last week and did 2 digit by 1 digit just to be sure she could do it. We worked on these 2 digit Mermaid Task Cards with a game board, which will be including in my Primary Reading and Math Games Bundle when I get it updated. Grab it now at the low price before I added it and the price goes up. It comes with the fun game board where if you land on a mermaid you get to go again.

Next we worked on Adding 9 to a number using the board game from my Addition Facts Snake Games. I taught her a trick to make adding 9 even easier for when she does timed tests. Take 1 from the other number you add 9 and that is the ones. Then put a 1 in the ten's place and you have your answer. Example 9 + 4. 1 less than 4 is 3 so the answer is 13.  7+9. Take 1 from 7 and get 6 so the answer is 15. She picked up on it quickly!

We also worked again on multiplying 0's and 1's to make sure she hasn't forgotten the skill with my game Trolls Multiplication Race. Land on a Troll and you get to go again, but watch out for the monsters they will chase you back to start! Their are cards that go through the 10's facts.

Tutoring Tuesdays - June 27th, 2017

I'm back with tutoring Tuesdays! I had a great session of tutoring last Thursday just like I always do. She is so much fun! Her parents are absolutely wonderful and supportive too!

This week we continued working on 2 digit subtraction by 2 digit subtraction. I let her pick out of two different sets of task cards and she picked 2 Digit Subtraction Dinosaurs Task Cards. This set comes with a board game that I used to make it more fun. If children land on the dinosaur they get chased back to start! The cards again can be written on if laminated or put in plastic sleeves with a dry erase marker, which is what I did with her. She did a fantastic job only missing a couple. One of those had the tricky 0 in the ones place. When she had another problem with that pesky zero she got it correct! She is an incoming 2nd grader! So very smart!

Then I went over a few problems with multiplication with 0's and 1's as factors. It took a few cards and then she completely understood how to multiply 0's and 1's. She started making up her own multiplication equations with 0's and 1's as factors and giving her mom and I the product! So very smart. We played a quick game with my Butterfly Multiplication Race using just the equations with 0's and 1's. The game has facts to 10! I had her give me the answer rather than write on it. Should children land on a snake they get chased back to start, but if they land on a butterfly they fly away from the snake and get to go again! So much fun!!!
