The Day That A Ran Away - Book Review and Giveaway

I was asked if I would like to review a new book called "The Day That A Ran Away" and after looking at the information about the book, I jumped at the chance!

"The Day That A Ran Away" by B. C. R. Fegan is a hilarious story where the teacher, Mrs. May ask a student Jet, why he didn't write down the alphabet? He goes on to tell her why each letter of the alphabet left his page while he was walking to school that day! You'll have to read on to see what happens to Jet after giving her his clever excuse!

The beautiful illustrations by Lenny Wen have things on each page that start with the letter. This is a great book to teach the order of the alphabet, letter identification, beginning sounds, rhyming words, and predicting.

Featured Freebie Fridays - August 4th, 2017

Happy Friday! Teachers are back to work here in the county I live in and kids return on August 10th. I think the soon to be 2nd grader who I tutor starts on August 9th. So I know many of you are returning to the classroom soon if you haven't already. I wish you a wonderful year!!!

Before I get to my freebie this week I did not post one last week because I have been working on setting up a new store! I currently have 777 products up there as I write this. Kind of funny it wound up all 7's but it did. Maybe it's lucky right? I used this game the first day of Kindergarten a few years ago when I last taught. ABC Race is a game where students pick a card and name the capital letter. They then roll one die (dice) and move that many spaces on the game board. The first to the finish wins. Very simple game that is easy for Kindergarten students. You can differentiate by having the student tell what sound the letter they pick makes or name something that begins with that letter. This week's featured freebie is an oldie but goodie! Fishy Sight Word Blast is a sight word game with a math twist. After reading a sight word the student picks a starfish and gets that many points. He or she gets to decide to keep picking to add to their points or stop. If he or she picks another card they add that to their total. They can continue as often as they want. Watch out if he or she gets a 0 they lose all their points including from previous rounds! Click either picture to download it and don't forget to leave kind feedback!

St. Patrick's Day Linky Party

The next holiday that will be here before we know it is St. Patrick's Day! It is the perfect time to study and learn about Ireland and tie it in with some fun St. Patrick's Day games, centers, and activities.

My newest creation is for St. Patrick's Day focusing on addition facts to 10. There is a fun game board included where the student goes back to start if they land on the leprechaun. You can also just use the cards as flash cards, to play Scoot, Quiz, Quiz Trade or any other cooperative learning game.

I have also added beginning sound puzzles to my fun St. Patrick's Day Kindergarten Puzzles. This puzzle set also include alphabet matching, cvc words, counting to 20, and number words.

Valentine's Day Fun!

Valentine's Day is approaching very quickly!  I have some great ideas to help make this week fun for your students.

One of my favorite videos that ties in nicely with Valentine's Day is "You Are Heart" by The Learning Station. 


I have also been hard at working making some new teaching products that you may not have seen yet, including a freebie!  This first one is my CVC Valentine Word Work Centers.  Here are some pictures from it!

Kindergarten Christmas Freebie!

As many of you know I started out my teaching career in Kindergarten.  I still find joy in the little ones when I substitute teach and it is so amazing when they see me with another class or see me in the store and come up to me so cheerful and give that great big hug.  My Kindergarten children always loved the hands on activities and fun games that I did with them.

I Have Who Has has always been a favorite.  Just for you Kindergarten teachers and the sight words may work in 1st grade as well I created 5 games for your class to enjoy for FREE!  Wait a minute did I say FREE?  I sure did!  The games are capital letters, lowercase letters, numbers to 25 (I went beyond 20 in case you have more children than that), and 2 different sight word games.  The sight words were pulled from Fry's first 100 Words.  You can get them for FREE in  my TPT or TN shop.  All I ask is for a nice rating and comment if you enjoy them.

Positive Fridays - Week of June 25th

I know, I know, I know I said no more Positive Fridays until school starts, BUT I have some wonderful positives that I just must share so Positive Fridays are back for this week anyway my friends.  Keep reading and I promise a freebie for you all as well!

- Last weekend, I got to babysit my nephew on Friday and Saturday will be doing the same this week and the rest of summer until school starts!  He is 7 years old and going into 2nd grade.  He kept me on my toes for 2 days.  This was my first time ever babysitting.  He had fun on the computer playing http://www.abcya.com and http://www.spellingcity.com  It is hot with no A/C in my house right now until the part comes in to fix it so we spent some time outside throwing water at each other using water bottles and his squirt gun.  We also played my Fishy Sight Word game (it's free!) along with some other games, read a bunch of Clifford books, made some snow, etc.

- Then on Thursday I received a call to interview for a tutoring position for the summer on Monday!  I can't wait as I am so excited to get to help children again.  I love making a difference in their lives.

- Also, on Thursday an amazing parent of a 3rd grader wrote me the nicest recommendation letter.  It brought tears to my eyes.

- Finally, on Thursday I found out from another parent and former collegue that her daughter had a book published on the web.  I taught her daughter in 2nd grade and she is going into I believe 8th grade!  Wow!  Where does time go?

- Almost forgot I also heard that a student of mine that I taught in Kindergarten my 2nd year just got straight A's on her last report card (4.0 average all year!) and scored 4's on FCAT in reading and math barely missing a 5.  I am so proud of her!
